My Summer Reading List

What are you reading this summer?  I'd really like to know.
These are the books on my list.  Right now I am half way through three of them.  One is checked off the list and the other is still waiting patiently to be chosen.
I flew through The Devil in Pew Number Seven.  It takes place in NC.  I love reading books that take place in settings I'm familiar with.  How about you?   I never read biographies.  Ever.  I don't know why.  Maybe this is the start of a new me.  Hmm...
I'm halfway through Tidewater Inn and it is definitely a good summer read.  It takes place on the NC coast.
The hardest books for me to read are thinky books.  I labor through them.  Maybe it's because I don't want to miss something important.  Maybe it's because it feels too much like work.  Ha!  Tough Guys and Drama Queens is definitely worth the effort.  If you have a teen, pre-teen or a child approaching those ages, I HIGHLY recommend it.
If you are a mom of a boy, I also highly recommend Six Ways to Keep the Good In Your Boy.  It's a sweet, thought-provoking read.
I have always loved a good mystery.  Terri Blackstock is one of my favorite authors.  I can't wait to crack open Truth Stained Lies.  I think it will be a good by-the-pool book!

It's your turn!  Tell me what your favorite summer book is.  Pretty please?!

  2. Reading a ton of historical fiction for myself as well as three historical fiction for upper-elementary that we'll be covering in school this fall.
I'm just wrapping up The 7 Experiment by Jen Hatmaker as well.

  3. REading lots of Food science-y books. Actually pretty entertaining. Also reading "Follow ME" by David Platt - great book - but not necessarily summer reading. I haven't found my summer books yet...

  4. I have read a lot on my Kindle... one series that was so not me, and right now I can't think of the name, but it was more of a Chronicles of Narnia/Lord of the Rings/Vampire with Christianity. Odd sounding, I know, but it was quite good. I just finished reading Eyes Wide Open by Ted Dekker. These two sets of books are so different from what I normally read, but it has been nice to change it up a bit. I also have been reading a book on Job intermittently. Right now I just started one called Back on Murder. So far it is pretty good. I try to find the freebies on my Kindle. It is nice to read some new authors. OH... and I also began reading The Bride Wore White to do with Mikayla. I will read a chapter and then she will read a chapter. The first chapter last night was quite good. Now it is her turn. :)

  5. Hi Gretchen...My name is Linda, and my blog is Truthful Tidbits. I had a browze around your blog today and I think I smiled the entire time. You are fun!

Lee Henderson is a good author...have you ever read any of her books? I started one... one evening and never slept a wink until I finished....it was a mystery! (Christian fiction)

I'm glad you won the ball jars over at Richella's blog. I love her! Such a Southern Lady!

I am now subscribed by email, so I look forward to reading more posts from you. I have 3 married daughters in their 40's, so I could be your mom...but I just loved your easy going style and as I said, your delightful humor!

    Enjoy life on your farm!

  8. Oh...and now I am reading the Cedar Cove series...by Debbie Macomber, since it's now on Hallmark, and I am loving it, I wanted to read the books, and they are good too...and much more detailed than the show. (A little racy in parts, which I'm not used to, since I usually only read Christian Fiction...but I love all of the characters in the small town of Cedar Cove.)
