Don't let the title fool you. I'm not a laundry expert. In fact, I really despise it.
About a year ago my husband overheard me tell a friend that I loved the layout of our home. Everything but the location of the laundry room. It was the room you had to walk through from the garage to get to the rest of the house. Not only was it the furthest point from all of the bedrooms, it collected all the stuff a mud room collects... plus laundry piles = perpetual mess.
Since my hubby is the creative builder type, he said, "Why don't we move the laundry room upstairs?"
What?! We've hauled laundry up and down the stairs for 5 years and I never knew that was even possible? Let's do it!!!
So we enclosed 1/2 of our walk-in attic and created a new laundry room:
Since the ceiling is very low, I chose wall sconces instead of an overhead light. Did you know that indoor wall sconces are twice as expensive as outdoor ones? Did you know you can use outdoor sconces ... indoors? Wow! What freedom!
You know I had to decorate a little. We stay much more organized in here:
The basket is for lost socks. I'm sure you don't ever have those.
This little hanger thingy is the best! It takes up very little space, yet holds a lot. It even collapses if your space is really tight.
See, the vaulted ceiling is still high enough to put those high-falutin' front load things. One day.

Do you know what the best part of this laundry room is? My hubby does laundry now! Yippeeee! One of the best 'moves' we've ever made.

Oh, wow! I hate my laundry room, too, which you have to walk through from the garage. We have plenty of room in our 2nd Floor Attic. My husband's not too handy, though. Was it a lot of work?
I love the color of the walls in your new laundry, and I may just have to steal your sign; it's too cute! (Laundry Room: Loads of Fun)
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the "Laundry Room - Loads of Love" detail! So sweet!
Oh, I LOVE that! Good move! :-)
My laundry "room" is in the basement ... in the unfinished utility closet under the stairs! It's AWFUL! And, it's even worse hauling laundry up and down two flights of stairs.
Once upon a time, in another house far away, I had a laundry room on the second floor, adjacent to the bedrooms. Ah, those were the days!
(Very impressed, by the way, with your husband's handiwork ... and, of course, with yours!)
Oh what a cute space. I've painted mine and decorated it too and it does make laundry seem less vile.!
Love the cute laundry room! My dream house has a laundry room on the same level as the bedrooms....maybe someday.
How cute is that! Hubby doing laundry that is BIG BONUS here! Love the color!

So, I want to know about the sign over the door...The Laundry Room...loads of fun. How did you do it? I want to steal this for my room. Wonder if it will make me want to do more laundry?
Wow! I bet this has made a huge difference.
WOW, what a hubby you have. It's logical to have the laundry upstairs...near the laundry. And to have such a pretty laundry room. I love those wall sconces. :-)
Smart move on the laundry room. Part of the whole laundry procrastination is mostly due to it's far off local! Obviously a man designed my house...then again it was your man who had such a great idea so I guess I shouldn't knock em. :) I also like your madeover tea cart and the cute framed plaques. Nice job!
GREAT laundry room! I'd love to have one upstairs... or INDOORS, for that matter. :o) I love how you decorated it. Cute!
That laundry room is fabulous! I want that lettering for mine! I need to jazz up my laundry room so bad. I was thinking a green like yours and black and white polka dots. Your hubby did a great job!!
If you didn't already know it, YOUR HUBBY IS A TOTAL KEEPER! :) What a gem of a laundry room.
G,
What a great project! It looks like it turned out REALLY nice! How awesome it must be to be married to a guy who can do something like this! Our master bedroom shares a wall with our laundry room and I have to say that it is the best thing ever having it just steps away. I have been spoiled having it this way, and I forget that there are some people who actually have to cart their laundry up and down steps. I think if I had to do that it would never get done. Thanks for sharing this with us and all the other fall ideas. I might need some of your help at my house soon!
Love,
Rach :)
