We're So In Vogue

"Staying home to bond over board games is totally in style this year."
I recently read this in the November issue of a woman's magazine. Well whadayaknow. Our family is au courant! It's not that we've ever tried to stay within the current trends... we just know how to have a good time. :)

When extended family is together, we give the kids a movie to watch and then we get serious. Serious about fun. Canasta, Garbage Rummy, Golf (card game), 3-13, Pounce, Apples to Apples, Chicken Foot, Battle of the Sexes, the list goes on and on.

Not to worry. We don't leave the kids out. Mancala, UNO, Rummikub, Sequence, Jenga, Triominoes, and Blockus are some of our family favorites.

Turning off the t.v. and turning on the Christmas tunes sets the mood. Family bonding, laughter, and healthy competition ensues. Sometimes, I even learn a thing or two. For instance, last night I learned that vodka is made from potatoes. Not that I need to know that. But now you know if you ever find yourself playing Battle of the Sexes.

My kids are learning sequence, logic, strategy, and visual perception. The best part is that they are learning while having a great time. Together.

Here's my challenge of the week. Set a family date night this week and make it special. Throw in some popcorn, a little background music and be ready to have fun.

What's your family's favorite game to play?

We have been trying to play more games together too. My extended family used to play Garbage when I was little. I don't know how to play, but I wonder if it is the same game??

Sounds like you had fun!

Glad you are in vogue.

We love to play games, too. In fact, I just cleaned out the buffet in my dining room and moved all our games in there so that they're more readily accessible to the table.

Right now, playing cards (Rummy) is our fave...but it will soon change, as it always is.

Our family likes to play The Settlers of Catan. Noah is getting pretty good! His competitive nature is coming out though...he definitely takes after his dad!
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving weekend! :)

My hubbie and I love to play Sequence.

I created a monster when I taught our son to play UNO. He beats me all the time now.

We love games and with three guys in the house, someone's always up for some competition.

Thanks for the reminder. We're relying far too much on "on demand" and videos, lately. Though they're fun, they're nothing like game nights. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

With the littles we are into uno, and GO fish! the big ones never tire of chess, and as a family, Cranium is a favorite.

We like to play Things if there is a bigger crowd, not too big since you have to do some remembering. It can be crazy funny sometimes. And the new craze here is Killer Bunnies. My daughter and son in law, go to Bible study and top off the evening with a game of Killer bunnies!

We like Hi Ho Cherry Oh!

Our family has a fun Sunday night tradition we started this year. Every Sunday night we make nacho's for dinner. Then we make out the couch bed, watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition and Football while eating popcorn. Then we sleep on the couch bed. Fun times!

I'm thinking of getting Sequence for our family this year. You recommend?

My favorite is Blokus, but we also love Yahtzee, Farkel, Scrabble, Set, Scattergories, and so many more!
