Randomness

1. On day 2 of a nasty cold. It does have its perks: My kids and hubby have been so sweet. Who knew you could teach school from the couch? I really can't complain. This is the first day I've been sick since we started school in July. A hand-delivered peppermint mocha from Starbucks sure made me feel better this morning, too.

2. Ever tried a neti pot? The thought of it makes my eyes water. But the Puffs aren't cuttin' it.

3. We are getting ready for a dream makeover here at the NEM household. My daughter informed me that she is ready for a big girl room. Since when was turning 9 considered a big girl? At least she didn't say she was ready for a teen room. This is the room she's lived in since she was 8 months old. I guess it's time to say goodbye to periwinkle blue and horses. Sniff, sniff.

4. I am NOT a fan of ESPN or any of its affiliates. BUT, lately I've come to appreciate the sports empire for two reasons:
a.) The winter X games. Love, love love them.
b.) When they host local sports teams, it does not interrupt my viewing habits.

5. I live in the heart of ACC and I hate college basketball. (See item "b" above)

6. The NEM household has been known to throw a mean party. You name it, we're on. We love to have people over. But sometimes it's nice to be invited to someone else's house, ya know? We've had some sort of New Years Eve party for the past 14 years. If you do the math, that's every year we've been married. For the past 9 or so years we've hosted a superbowl party, complete with the infamous wardrobe malfunction. So this year we decided to wait and see if we were invited to anyone's house for the big game. {Crickets chirping}
After all, who wants to watch the big game here where we don't even have a big screen tv? {more crickets chirping}

7. We still have patches of snow in our yard and I am sad to see it go. I LOVE cold weather.

8. I think I've become a hermit homebody. While some endured being stuck in the house for 5 days because of the Snowstorm of 2010 (go ahead and laugh if you live above the Mason-Dixon Line), I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of comfort food, board games, sledding, family time. Loved. every. minute!

9. Did I mention the Neti pot? It's sounding better by the minute. Bleh.

10. I'm thinking about hosting a swap. Accessories, home decor, books etc... If you live near me, would you be interested?

I know what you mean about hosting and then hearing crickets.

Please! Come to our Superbowl party. It will just be our two families, but won't it be fun to turn your head everytime our name is mentioned. ;)

I sense a serious hint in #6. ;o) I liked being home, too. Warm and cozy, saved gas and money, and hunkered down with my girlies! Hey, we'll be doing room makeovers here, too! Fun times! Thank God my dad paints.

If I lived near you, I would come. I don't know where you live, but I don't think it's near me. We haven't had actual, real, live snow on the ground since........ um, yeah. Like I said, must not be very close.

Get the netti. I use it on my kids and they actually LIKE it. Instant (although often short-lived) relief.

I would love to swap, if only we lived closer. We don't have big screen TV and don't host superbowl, though we have hosted two back in the day and I ended up teaching stamping to the ladies!
Miss you, Tara

You are hereby invited to my house officially - We have a big screen, though the seating is iffy.

Call me and we can discuss.

I think you are the first woman I have ever heard of that LOVES cold weather. Way to go!! (or is it crazy? HA!)

My hubby loves NETI pots...I tried it once and vowed to never do it again. Just kind of gross.

Regarding the party thing...we too feel that way some times. We tend to have the summer BBQ's for the neighbors and then the roll into night time bonfires...They are fun don't get me wrong but, it would be fun to not always be the "hostess with the mostess" :-)

Hope you feel better...good luck with the Neti if you try it.

Never been a huge fan of the Superbowl - now an ACC Tournament Party - I've considered hosting one of those. Totally up for a swap - I'd be willing to host if you'd help me pull it together.

I put out the "gauntlet" for the accessories swap a while back but didn't get any takers...
You can come over & use our big screen ANYTIME (but we won't be there for the game...) I hope you are feeling MUCH better tomorrow!
Your girls were SO great tonight! They were such a help to me setting up, had a great time & were so sweet throughout the evening, then were a big help to Anne cleaning up. You've sure trained them up right! Love you, my darling girl!

It is never fun being sick...hope you feel better soon.

My hubby uses the neti pot on a weekly basis for his sinuses and swears by it... hope it does its magic on you.

By the way...Love the song playing on your blog...

I"m so sorry you are sick :(. Colds are horrible. I'll share with you what I do when I have a cold and it helps me a lot.

-before bed take a long, hot shower. the steam is really good to kind of clear up my head

-put vicks vapor rub on your neck/chest

-put on warm pj's and socks

-drink a glass of hot tea with honey and crawl into bed to try to get some good rest

seriously, this little routine always is so relaxing when i'm feeling puny. and of course there's always nyquil :)...love nyquil!

i'm so web md, i should've been a doctor. haha your mom's right though, plenty of rest and fluids ;)
