Tuesday Tidbits

1. We had a touch of fall over the weekend.  It was wonderful, but now that we're back up in the 80's with humidity I feel like I was given one chocolate chip from the bag.  Only one.
I'm craving more!
What better way to enjoy cool weather than a football game?  It happened to be military appreciation night, so I had goosebumps that were a result of more than just chilly weather.

2. By mid-September my house is usually filled with fall decorations.  What is it this year?  I have one gourd sitting in the powder room.  That's it.  Over the cool weekend I almost bought a couple of mums.  Now that it's muggy again, I can't bring myself to do it.

3.  We decided that our son would have to be deathly ill before we took him to the emergency room this week, for fear that we might be turned in for this:
He "clotheslined" himself on Sunday.  I guess the vine won.  He didn't even tell us it happened, so imagine my horror surprise when I noticed the slice on his neck when he got out of the bath.  Boys!  It's a whole 'nother world from girls.  ;)

4.  My 10 year old has been sick for the past two days.  It may or may not be a result of not so great parenting choices staying up really late for 2 days in a row and sitting in the drizzle of rain for 4 hours to watch a football game.   While I never like my children to be sick, I have to admit it's been kind of nice to be forced to lay low and stay at home.

5. I made these yesterday.  When my kids asked what they were I said, "Energy Balls."  It kind of just rolled off my tongue.  I feel like a really good mom when I hear my kids say, "mom, can I have an energy ball?"  Yep, it sounds so much better than, "mom, can I have a pop tart?"  I'll go with it!  :)

6. I, on the other hand, found a new way to feed my addiction to Nutella.  Now I can enjoy my favorite chocolate silk in the car:
Hello Daaaling.

7.  I've been mulling over a topic that will probably go against my non-confrontational persona:  Kids in Church.  The last time I touched on this topic a tempest blew in from the north and nearly killed us all.  I ended up having to remove the post from my blog because of the fall out; so we'll see how frisky I'm feeling toward the end of the week.

8.  Since we're on the topic of confrontation.  Here's the thing.  I have a few local bloggy friends that I know read my blog, but rarely comment.  I comment on their blogs but crickets chirp here.  I kind of see blogging as a good conversation.   Just a lil' disheartened.

9.  With that said...  I have gained some new readers lately who have left the most encouraging comments.  So THANK YOU "Alice," "Michele," "Thoughts for the Day,""Laura," and "Emily"  for joining in on the conversations here at NEM.

10.  We're having tacos tonight.  It's one meal that my family never tires of.  Tonight it's grilled chicken on soft tacos.  What's a meal your family never says no to?

LOVE the pictures of the giant flag from the game! That was so awesome to see. A great win too. :)

I would really love to read about kids in church so please do write! Forget the hatas! (aka haters, aka negative, rude people)

You are right - tacos is absolutely the best go-to meal that is always delicious! Especially when nachos & cheese are involved too. :) We also love classic lasagna or baked ziti!

Much love,
Ashley

I am SO with you on the fall decorations! Last year I had them all out by the end of August. Crazy, I know. I just put out my first few yesterday, but I'm not nearly as excited as I usually am since it has gotten warmer out. Come on, fall! :)

Hmmm....that meal that EVERYONE likes......fried chicken, home-made pizza or Deer steaks!

Boys... yes, they get into a LOT more things than girls. Glad he is OK, though!!

Crickets chirp at my blog land, too. I honestly don't know what else to do about it. Begging is so, well... you know.

Energy balls... I like that.

Hope that "10 year old" feels better soon. BUT... it IS nice to lay low for a bit.

Fortunately they rarely tire of spaghetti, my all time go-to meal. I could eat pasta five nights a week, but my family makes me limit it to twice or so. We like tacos too! Enjoyed your music as usual!

Love your blog. It is always so interesting and full of variety! Just wondering, is Nutella really that good? I have never had it, but wanna try it!

I've been reading your blog for a while. I think I've left some comments before (I hope so). I'm not good with comments. You are a great writer, and I enjoy reading your blog.

I remember your post about kids in church. Honestly, I didn't agree with everything you wrote. But I think churches should have some type of policy to handle children who are a big distraction. Like a usher asking the mother to move the child to the lobby or the available child care.

I feel like there might be so many reasons a parent would choose to have their child with them in church, that we should be open to that and look over small distractions. Just a thought, but church is not really about us and our comfort, right?

Looking forward to your post.

Which nut butter did you use for your Energy Balls? I think my little energy balls will love these Energy Balls.

I'm with you on the comments. It's the reason I don't blog much. I love blogging, and while I "say" I don't blog FOR comments, the reality is the discouragement of no comments after pouring my heart out keeps me from blogging again. Which is why I might have 2 or 3 posts for this whole year. I do have a good one in mind, though, so maybe I'll go do that now.

I do love your blog, read it regularly (like, check daily to see if there's something new), so I'll be commenting more since I know how affirming the feedback is. Don't stop.

And while you're bringing up controversy, how about another topic on appropriate dress at church? Mmmm hmmm!

I have been so ready for my favorite season that I decided to go ahead and break out the decorations and it has definitely put me in such a better mood.

Not so sure I would want to spend my heavenly moment with nutella in the car when Raleigh drivers might make that moment not so heavenly. I'll stick with my jar and spoon at home in front of a new season of NCIS, which is what I did last night, and it was heavenly. Love the idea for kids lunches though.

Go ahead with the kids in church topic, it is your blog and I think many others will respect you more for your honesty. If it's about mine, just warn me first.

So, this is the first time I've commented on a blog post. I usually just read and move on'. I am interested in your thought on Kids in Church. I was alarmed when I saw the clothes line injury, so glad he is okay! And yes my boys are a different animal than my sweet Rachel :) And tacos are a staple in my house. Looking forward to reading more of your blog.

I'm so glad you admitted that you don't mind having to lay low a little when kiddos are sick. I'm such a homebody, so I'm right there with you. (But I'm not glad that you have a sick one at home! Just took a moment to ask God to keep the rest of the family healthy, because, you know, sharing is good. Sharing germs, notsomuch.)

And hello, daaaaling indeed. Where, pray tell, did you find that darling on-the-go combo?

Well I LOVE your blog!!! And I love you!! But of course, I am a little prejudiced...
I had a taco tonight... a tuna one that was delicious! At Chubby Taco's (our 1st time). As you know, cheese & crackers is a staple "meal" at our house, but when I'm cooking, it's either chili or stuffed green peppers.

I don't get many comments either though I have a few regulars who are such an encouragement to me. And I don't have nearly as many followers as you...

So glad the little man is okay! And glad you didn't have to take him to the Dr. for anything else or I'd probably be getting interviewed by DSS! Those boys just keep giving you grey hairs & keep you on your knees, but who'd trade them for anything?!

Okay first of all, sorry for the barrage of comments you are getting from me tonight! It has been a long time since I just sat down and caught up on blogs! Second, where in the world do you get that awesome little Nutella snack pack??
