Recipe Madness

Even with the benefits of online recipe keeping, I still love a good old fashioned, dependable recipe right at my fingertips.  I keep my recipes organized in a 3 ring binder.  It's nothing fancy.  Just a black notebook with clear sleeves inside.  This is where I keep my tried and true recipes.  The front and back pockets are where I stuff ones that I want to try.  Once they've been tested out, they get a plastic sleeve.  Movin' up in the world...
Every once in a while I go through the recipes that are in the individual sleeves and type them out onto one page to condense the paper piles.  Above is a picture of some main dish  recipes.  I'm a messy cook, so the plastic sleeves protect the paper.  That's not a smudge on your screen, that's sauce on my page.   ;)
Notice the pocket of the notebook in the background.  Looks like I need to be sifting through those newer recipes!

I used to have most of my recipes on index cards but they were hard to keep track of and I would often forget about them.  Out of sight out of mind. Now I just tape the recipe to a blank page with a few others and then slide it into the sleeve.  Have you ever tried the Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie above?  It is a no-fail, crowd pleaser. :)

How do you organize your recipes?  Do you use the index card method?  What works for you?

Oh to have orginazation in my life!!! Mine are all over the place. On little cards, on scraps of paper, and printed from the computer. But my most favorite are the ones hand written by my Grandma and Mom.

I have yet to learn the art of living within such a tight budget that will still allow for the numerous ingredients so many recipes call me. I think people do it- we're not the only ones pinching pennies and cutting corners- but I have no idea who and how they do it. Our cutting corners coupled with my lack of creativity and confidence with cooking (how do people just "throw" something together off the top of their heads?!) doesn't allow my brain to get into recipes, unfortunately.

I do have a few- and they are all over the place. I would definitely be smart to organize them better, WITH a sheet protector for a splash guard- that's so smart!

Would you care to post some of your favorite, leastamountofingredients, dinner recipes?? And of course, pictures are always welcome :)

I use binders very similar to yours. Like you, I find this method much easier than having bunches of index cards in a box.

I'm visiting from Richella's party.

My recipes are out of control! I like your method of testing them out before they get the honor of a plastic sleeve. :) I print so many recipes from online, but then I just throw them in an old folder - The thing is at least an inch thick now! Thanks for the motivation!

Found you through Imparting Grace, btw!

I have the same general idea as you do but mine are out of control

Gretchen, I love your idea of putting the recipes into page protectors! I have recipes stashed here and there and everywhere. Even though my computer is usually in the kitchen, I too like a printed copy--and some of mine get absolutely covered in stuff. Thank you for sharing a great solution!

My recipes are kind of all over the place. I started typing them up a few years ago on recipe cards, but got bored and haven't gotten back to it. I keep those in a recipe box and wrap them in plastic wrap whenever I use them to keep the chocolate off (yep, most of mine would be chocolate). :)
