Friday Why

Some things I've pondered this week:
1. Gwen Thompson is the newest addition to the American Girl Doll collection. Each doll typically represents a certain time period and comes with her own series of books. Since I love all things history related, I was excited to find out what Gwen's story would be. History? Not so much. So what's her story? She's keeping a secret: she's homeless.
Really? The makers at Matel really want to touch that subject? And then charge $95 for a doll? A little ironic, doncha think?
2. Gwen's dad apparently skipped town and left them homeless. Hmm... sounds like a theme. Remember Kit? Her dad skipped town during the depression to "find work."
3. Speaking of parental themes, ever noticed how the mother is eerily absent in most Disney princess movies? Snow White, check. Cinderella, check. Jasmine, check. Ariel, check. There is a new princess movie coming out soon and I'm interested to see if momma's on board.
4. Why do I feel so cool when I wear jeans with a hole in the knee?
5. Why do some women think it is okay to wear pajama bottoms in public?
6. I heard this little jingle on a cartoon this morning: practice makes progress, practice makes progress Hmm... I think this is much more realistic than practice makes perfect. Nobody's perfect.
7. Why do weirdos like to hang out at the public library? I wish the library had a separate building for the free internet and weirdos.
8. Why did I schedule 2 major events in the same day? Why, why, why?
9. Why would someone do that? asked my 10 year old after seeing the news about Ft. Hood. Why do I have to answer such a sad question?
10. Why does Starbucks wait until November 17th to sell Gingerbread Lattes?

Great questions?? :0)

My daughter learned "practice makes permanent" instead of practice makes perfect. i like "practice makes progress" even better!!

SO interesting about the homeless AG doll. I hadn't heard about that! Maybe they are hoping to boost sales by everyone wanting to give the homeless dolly a home. :0)

I have a good friend waiting for the Gingerbread Lattes as well...

Some interesting thoughts. I completely agree about well all of them. I was going to start with the doll. I've been trying to wrap my head around these for a few years now. (most likely because I live in canada and we don't have them)I think that most of them are a great concept but it's a doll and at 100$ a pop it seems like they are sure to break the hearts of the many little girls who's parents can't afford them/are not willing to pay that price. for a doll. I can't even believe that they made this one homeless with that pricetag in this economy?
Mmmmm distressed jeans. love.
I think the same thing about libraries too.
Praying for those in Ft. Hood. So very sad.
That was a long comment;)
Have a great weekend.

I know. The library is one of my favorite places to go, except certain times of the day we have actually had to avoid it. And along with pj bottoms, how about slippers out in public. eewww!

I was wondering #8 for you as well. You have a busy day on Saturday. Can I help you in anyway?

Let's talk #5. Does wearing your pj's in the bushes count as wearing them in public? Just kidding!

Have a great day.

I have never thought about the Disney movies...that is really interesting. Deep thoughts!

We closed on our house today. I am picking out paint colors and carpet colors. Do you have a Benjamin Moore paint wheel? I'm loving some of the grays-Edgecomb Gray, Revere Pewter, Wedgewood Gray, Rockport Gray. Very different from anything I've ever done...There will be pictures in the next couple weeks!

I enjoyed your vacation pictures. That lighthouse was gorgeous!

The weirdos at the library are the reason we don't go. One made me very nervous (he was looking at one of my kids in a not so nice way) Although, I do want to try out the new one near the school.

Here's my answer to the American Girl collection :

K1 and K3 have one..and they love them.

#9..very sad. Of course there's a ton more to the story that will never be published.

Have a great weekend!

LOVE to wear my jeans with the hole in the knee. I wear them to Starbucks.

I think we should go on the 17th, don't you?

The pj bottoms and houseshoes in Walmart gets me every time. They are HOUSEshoes. HOUSEshoes. So why wear them in public?

I also want to know why strangers feel as though they need to speak to me about their buggy contents in Walmart. As if I care why they are purchasing 3 cans of tuna and 5cans of prune juice.

I'm glad to know that other people wonder stuff, too....

I did not know that about the new AG doll - will have to check that out more.

I always wonder why people find it okay to wear their slippers to stores. Not to carpool, but to actually go in somewhere. Houseshoes belong in the house, ya know?

I'm in for the 17th!

You and CPQ could totally pull off the hole in the leg fashion.

And I am totally with you on the PJ's in public thing...especially when I see them worn with their slippers...c.r.a.z.y.

Wow...now you have me thinking on the AG doll. At first, it didn't bother me. But now...

Agree on the Disney movie thing. What is wrong with mommies, Walt??? Why do you kill us off (hello, Bambi) or leave us out altogether?

See...a hole in the knee is okay if you can leave it alone. I'm a picker, though. So by 10 a.m., I'd have one long leg and one short leg on my jeans. Not pretty. Not even better than jammie bottoms in public.
