Spontaneous

I have a dear friend who owns the word SPONTANEOUS. I love her for that. She called me on Monday and asked if I wanted to take a day trip on Tuesday. I loved her even more because she told me we could make it educational and my kids have been asking for a field trip.

Doncha think the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola is educational???
I've been off caffeine for almost a whole year (except for the peppermint mocha that was an oops I forgot to say decaf that rendered me hyper until 2 a.m. the night before our road trip), and I rarely drink carbonated drinks, but when in Rome... er, New Bern,NC...
It was the best Pepsi I've ever put to my lips.
We almost got thrown out when someone, who shall remain nameless, ordered a Diet Coke.
The kids thought it was pretty cool to sit at the counter and order Pepsi.

CPQ is the queen of finding good cuisine, so I knew the trip would be filled with local gems.
Although, I had my doubts when she suggested lunch at the Cow Cafe. I was happy to see that the theme of the restaurant was all things bovine, and not a suggestion of the size of the patrons. ;)
We toured the palace of the first governor of NC, which was rich with history (and lots of breakables and antiques.)
When the cute little ladies dressed in time period clothing looked out the veranda and spotted this on the front lawn, I believe they locked up the silver:
Not only is she good at being spontaneous and choosing good food, CPQ can whip up a game called Can You Beat Your Momma to get the wiggles out before entering a 300 year old home.

How fun! Did you know my mom is from New Bern? Yep, and I've never even been to the Tryon Palace!

How fun! I too would have made the same "faux pas" (is my French too rusty??Did I spell that right?) by ordering a coke!! Glad y'all had a great time.
Hugs!

You're such a fun travel companion. Let's do it again. I can't go before tomorrow morning.

Next time, we'll stop at King's for a pig in a puppy.

Meant to ask you how the trip was, but now I "see" it was great!

HOW FUN! I want to go on a field trip with you and Carpool Queen!

So, how come you've been of cokes for a year?

If you think of ol' Bugs & Sunshine I'd love some prayer. We're deciding about schooling options for next year. I'm needing God to make His Word clear to me on what we are to do :).

What great fun! I love friends who call me to do things I wouldn't normally do on my own.

Looks like so much fun! Is the next trip to Salisbury to seek out the Cheerwine source?

That looked like so much fun! Glad you documented the day through pictures.

Love your blog! Just came over from lurking on CPQ's to look around. I just might stay around and lurk here, too! I'm enjoying myself here! I still haven't killed enough cardboard in our newly-moved-into-house to start blogging again, though. Not sure that I will now that I'm homeschooling. We shall see! Anyway, keep up the good work!

Man, I would've paid money to have been on that trip with y'all.

Y'all are my kinda people.

You're inspiring me to really look into the local gems around here. We live in a tourist destination, for heaven's sake. Time to stop taking it forgranted, and start enjoying the outside more than our TV screens. Maybe we'll do the tulip fest this week. Or...go on a gray whale cruise. Or...maybe a walk in the forest.

Bless you for including that picture of CPQ.

That pretty much made my day.:)
