Say It Ain't So

While I was out and about doing some Christmas shopping today I happened upon a fashion statement that I haven't seen in a long time.  Since 1989.
Grey sweatpants hiked up to expose the lily white skin of her calves/shins; keds; big hair; and to complete the look: a gold chain that I'm pretty sure she bought by-the-length.  Remember those days?
Total 80's coolness.

As I shared with my sister-in-law my regret of not capturing the moment with my phone camera, she told me about the current "hot item" at the GAP:

Get out.  This is the actual picture from their advertisement.    My arches have never been the same.  I know you wore them too if you are over the age of 25.  You know you did.

Guess what else I ran across during my shopping spree:
Fame!  I wanna live forevah....  Yes.  They're back.  Even though they make my feet look petite, my ankles look like they've been abused (by stirrup pants, possibly??)

Not to worry.  I hear these are making a comeback:
Tiny ankles, tiny feet, saggy butt.
Perfect.

Hahaha. Great post! I work for a very popular well known worldwide retailer and I'm constanly saying, "wow it looks like the
80's threw up in here!" I refuse to do it again, and yes those MC Hammer pants are back, right along with acidwashed jeans! It's Hammer Time!!!

GROSS. stirrup pants? i used to wear those every day in the winter and had them in every color. i wore them with big sweaters, scrunch-down socks and my keds.

gross. gross. gross. i bought into the whole skinny jeans thing (albeit much later than most) but this is one thing that will never see my closet or my legs again.

Oh man, not cool. I used to wear stirrup pants like they were going out of style...and they couldn't have gone out of style soon enough!! Gross.

And I did see a segment of Rachael Ray the other day where they were telling you "how to appropriately" wear acid wash jeans. No thanks.

We must ban together and tell the younger generations they will regret it. Just say NO!

Well..... that is a blast from the past I will choose not to repeat! I remember my stirrup pants and oversized sweaters and sweatshirts. I will not regress. lol

See, I don't go clothes shopping very often. Well, ever. Except target every now and then. :) I guess when I start wishing I could go on a spending spree at the mall I can remind myself of this post and how I'm clearly not missing much. :) and yes, I wore those stirrup pants and cannot believe they are back!

You know what they say: if you are old enough to have worn it the first time, you shouldn't wear it the next time. Who would want to, anyway? That Hammer picture cracks me up, btw!

I never wore the stirrup pants but I sure do remember them. I remember saving up babysitting money to buy leg warmers though. I actually saw a woman older than me wearing some today!
